Still reason to be optimistic Welcome to a new media for the Grundfos Group. Grundfos Worldwide has been redesigned and is now almost twice as big as before. The editorial staff of the new Gmagazine aim to establish a new meeting place for us all, a place where we will get information and inspiration about our company and organisation. Inside the magazine, you will find a number of different articles that share this characteristic – that they are all in some way related to the world in which Grundfos and its employees are living. I have great expectations of the magazine. And I also have expectations of the person who won the election that is covered in this magazine: The new President of the United States, Barack Obama. He is facing a difficult time, but his views and plans sound promising. Here, I am thinking about the world efforts that are being made to combat climate change and to find new and alternative ways to reduce CO2 levels and help Mother Nature by means of energy consciousness and technology. Being a sustainable company, we take a great interest in this, and it is reassuring to know that the world’s greatest polluter, the US, will now take the lead in an attempt to make new global agreements. This is good news in more than one way. It is mainly good news for Planet Earth and its citizens. But it is also good news for Grundfos, as now we will have greater opportunity to offer our expertise and competences within this area. The US is facing major investments within the renovation of buildings and infrastructure, including water and sewage systems, and here too, Grundfos will have a role to play. In cooperation with Paco, Peerless and, most recently, Yeomans we can now gain a foothold in this market. And it is very much a question of fighting for every little bit of market share in the global marketplace. This is not least the case at a time when the world is hit by a serious crisis that is proving to be costly to many people and companies. The Grundfos Group is affected too, but we are convinced that we have a good chance of making it through these difficult times. The thing is – we have a plan: One year ago, we presented our ambitions through Innovation Intent, and we have come a long way since then. The Grundfos visions are still in force and they are still effective. The organisation has been trimmed in a number of areas, and the innovation platforms are in progress, focusing on energy-neutral buildings in the US and better accommodation in China as well as innovation within the wastewater area. This is also the case for our plans for measuring our own CO2 burden, making useful contacts within political circles and attracting the best employees. In short: We are well on the way. And it appears that our new Gmagazine is well on the way too. Dear colleague, Welcome to our new company magazine which I hope will be well received. Worldwide has been a great vehicle for many years, but we think that the time has come to strengthen our global company magazine. The number of employees is constantly increasing, and Grundfos’ interests are now – more than ever – global. New companies have become part of the Grundfos family, and it is difficult to maintain the Grundfos culture and history that has prevailed since 1945. We will try to compensate for this by offering better and more in-depth information in this magazine. It goes without saying that Gmagazine stands for Grundfos Magazine! Here, you will be able to read about people, products and events that are taking place within our own Grundfos world. Every company, every factory, and every department has its own, specific culture which is nurtured every day. Gmagazine does not attempt to change this. Rather, this magazine will attempt to create better understanding and knowledge about the things that are taking place within the organisation. We will be focusing on the differences and the diversity that characterise our company, as this is precisely what has proven to be Grundfos’ strong point: Diversity and the respect we show to each other’s differences – along with our common position of creating results for the benefit of us all. In addition to articles about topics from our own world, we will be focusing on world events that are important to us as a company and as human beings. We will do so even in this very first edition. A serious financial crisis has hit the world economy, climate change is at the top of the agenda of world politics, and the US have just elected a new president. What will all this mean for Grundfos, and how should Grundfos react in relation to the world around us and the future? I – along with the rest of the editorial staff – hope that you will be pleased with your new magazine and that you will use it to be better informed and even more committed. You are very welcome to contribute to making Gmagazine even better by sharing any tips or good stories. I hope you will enjoy reading it! Enjoy reading!
