together we can make a big difference every day, more than one billion people in the poorest countries in the world do not have access to clean drinking water. globally, one in five children does not have clean water to drink. every year, less water is available per head of population. today, everyone has five cubic metres per year – in 1950, the figure was around 20. Some of us can turn on a tap when we are thirsty. to us, it may be difficult to fully comprehend what it must be like not to have access to such a basic commodity. it is always difficult to relate to cold numbers and abstract statistics, and every day we hear about accidents, disasters and people in need. we push this information to the back of our minds because it is too much to think about and because we feel helpless: there is nothing we can do about it anyway! Now, we can do something about it! grundfos employees now have a unique opportunity to help people in those parts of the world where periods of drought grow more frequent and last longer, and where lack of water is a constant and growing problem. We put action behind the words initially, our new initiative – the water2life programme – will allow us to help people in Kenya. in time, people in other parts of the world will also be able to benefit from us making our liFeliNK technology accessible to more people by collaborating closely with the Danish red cross and by involving our employees. the key words in this global programme are the wellknown and strong grundfos values: Sustainability and responsibility. the new thing is that this project allows every single employee to assume responsibility and get involved personally. with this initiative, grundfos will also take yet another step towards pushing de velopments in the world in a sustainable direction. we quite simply assume responsi bility and create action behind the words demonstrated in innovation intent and in our climate white paper. Make your own decision please note that i use the word can when explaining about the employees’ options to get involved in the water2life programme. it is important for me to stress that all employees throughout the group can and may join, but that they do not have to. par ticipation is absolutely voluntary. No two grundfos employees are alike. we speak different languages, we live in dif ferent cultures, and we have different religious and political beliefs. last, but not least, our financial circumstances differ. Finally, let me stress that the water2life programme is not a group project or a cSr Department project. it is an opportunity for all employees to make a difference. i am happy to see that so many employees already have supported the project. Now, i will leave it up to you to decide whether you want to join them.
