We are making history every day Soon, 2011 will be a closed chapter. December is a busy month for most people – both privately and professionally – and soon we will be turning over yet another leaf on the calendar and we will wel come a new year that offers new challenges, tasks and busyness. That will be interesting. With the turn of the year, it is also a good time to reflect and think back on 2011. 2011 was a good business year for Grundfos and an interesting year because we all got to work more with our values, thus breathing new life into them. 2011 was also a Grundfos Olympics year, and a year when, once again, Grundfos grew bigger and stronger. Many interesting and important things have happened throughout Grundfos, and we strive to tell many of the small and big stories that contribute to write the story of Grundfos. But in the hustle and bustle of our daytoday activities, there is no time to hear them all, even though our internal media are full of good stories about the numerous activities that take place in the individual companies. Therefore, I enjoy diving into Gmagazine when I have time to read more. Time, for example, in this issue to read about our colleagues in Greece, who – despite the current crisis in the country – persevere in their struggle. To find out how the sense of solidarity helps to create results and how our Greek colleagues are cracking the hard nut of hold ing on to a market while the country’s economy is in free fall. This is something that we can all learn from and something that is very inspir ing, I think. By far the most important thing, however, is that, in 2011, we have once again contributed to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges. This is in terms of climate change and its consequences, focusing on a higher degree of energyefficiency and reducing the waste of resources and increasing the awareness of giving more people access to clean water and helping remove wastewater. Our activities have not gone unnoticed around the world and we have won several attractive and prestigious prizes and awards, includ ing two CSR prizes. Our German colleagues in Wahlstedt received an EFQM Award, our RC pump won a British and Danish award, and we ourselves awarded a large number of prizes. 2011 was also the year when Grundfos A/S was selected the best workplace in Denmark 2011 by the Danish trade union 3F. This is welldeserved and something that the rest of us can be proud of too. To me, these prizes and awards show that we are on the right track. Prizes and awards, however, are best used as decorations on the wall. What is important to me is that, behind all the prizes and awards are employees who are dedicated and who are making an extra effort so that we can continue to write our common history. I wish everybody in Grundfos all the best in the New Year. Carsten Bjerg Group President and CEO CONTENTS Merging strong values 31 13 Great potential in reducing water waste 2 Gmagazine December 11
