The next step involved the environmental dimension. The aim was to reduce the annual water and electricity consumption per employee in the office building as much as possible. The experiment turned out to be a success: by turning lights or computers off or down, adjusting air-conditioning systems, purchasing energy-saving office equipment, and stopping the water from running without a purpose, the staff succeeded in making massive reductions in terms of the energy and water consumption: • Starting point in 2014: 15.71 kWh 47L per employee per working day EACY Clubs: approximately 400 4 young people meet in their own local barrios to discuss issues pertaining to their own immediate environment. With support from Stairway, they implement projects and run activities to create awareness and to clean their localities. • 2015: 10.22 kWh - 36L ~ 3,000 EUR for charity • 2016: 8.83 kWh - 43L ~ 5,500 EUR for charity • 2017: 8.69 kWh - 29L ~ 3,000 EUR for charity All money saved was donated and handed over to Stairway Foundation. With the Poul Due Jensen Social Responsibility Award, the staff were able to contribute with an additional 20,000 EUR for the Stairway Foundation. Who needed help, and how could we help in the best possible way? To us, the obvious answer was the poor, abandoned and abused children of the Philippines. We chose to help them through the Stairway Foundation which protects the most marginalised and endangered children on the streets and in the mountains,” explains Christian Holme-Petersen, Director of the support centre.
