The last Hydro MPC booster on its way to a customer, who has had the building totally renovated. “When Hurricane Harvey made landfall, we were ready to work around the clock to help both people and the city of Houston,” says Mike Zacharias, President of Cou- gar Sales. “Hundreds of thousands were affected, many had to leave their homes and the city was shut down for a couple of weeks.” David McMillan W e are back in late August 2017. The weather forecast is predicting a hurricane to hit the capital of Texas within a few days. Hurricane Harvey is slowly building up over the Gulf of Mexico and that gives Mike Zacharias the chance to prepare for the worst case scenario. “I called Grundfos and explained the situation and that I needed all they could supply – all the Hydro MPC boosters, all the SL1 sump pumps and all the motors they had in stock. I knew we would need to both empty buildings of water and also replace a lot of pumps and motors after the massive rainfall,” recalls Mike Zacharias, co-founder, major shareholder and president of Cougar Sales – a valued partner and representative of Grundfos for the whole south of Texas. Quick response “When we received the warning from Mike we went through our stock immediately. We practically emptied all our shelves for products and prepared to be ready to solve problems,” says David McMillan, Executive Vice President, Grundfos USA. Within a couple of days Grundfos sent two huge truck loads with Hydro MPC boosters from Allentown, PA, an additional truckload of motors and CRs from Fresno, CA and another truckload of SL1 sump pumps in all sizes from Chicago, IL heading for Houston. Cougar Sales already had some 30 rental pressure boosting pumps in their warehouse, ready for emergencies. But Mike Zacharias ordered his team to build even more. “Over the last couple of years we have had three major floods and I knew they would be in desperate need, he says. Hurricane Harvey moved very slowly, changed direction on the way and even category as it came closer, but finally made landfall at Rockport, Texas. That was the JOURNAL17
