POUL DUE JENSEN FOUNDATION INCLUSION Support for British food banks Grundfos Great Britain secured The Trussell Trust a grant as a response to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy. The donation provides food and support to people who are suffering from poverty and food depravation via a network of 1200 foodbanks all across the UK. Personal protective equipment for Hungarian healthcare workers Grundfos in Hungary secured a grant for The Patient Care Foundation (A Betegápolásért Alapítvány) in Hungary as a response to COVID-19. The grant provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to 400 frontline staff of Szent György University Teaching Hospital of Fejér County. Food supplies for Ghana’s poorest Grundfos Ghana applied on behalf of the NGO Give Back Ghana as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Give Back Ghana provided food and sanitation boxes to families living in the informal settlement Agbobloshie in Accra, home to poor migrants from rural Ghana. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the city was in lockdown and many people were soon to be without the most basic essentials. Grundfos Ghana is also involved in building water entrepreneurship in the area. Monitoring non-sewered wastewater Grundfos South Africa has secured the Water Research Commission a grant to develop a water quality-based surveillance tool for non-sewered settlements as part of city-wide approach that will complement the wastewater surveillance programme and in turn provide support to other means of tracking disease outbreaks and help create a better understanding of the COVID-19 virus. Globally, around 2 billion people rely on non-sewered sanitation systems, mostly in developing countries. Around 4 million households in South Africa live in non-sewered communities. Water and sanitation for Manila’s slum dwellers Grundfos Philippines secured a grant to the Asia Society for Social Improvement & Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) for two water treatment systems to bring clean water, sustain education on proper sanitation and livelihood opportunities to Baseco Compound. With more than 60,000 inhabitants in a 53-hectare land area, the Baseco Compound is one of the largest and densest slums in the Philippines’ capital, Manila. The congested community suffers from poor sanitation and access to safe and affordable drinking water. The systems can provide up to 4,000 liters of clean water per hour and has a total production capacity of 96,000 liters per day; enabling more than 4,000 locals per day to receive safe water for drinking and handwashing. Quarantine kits in India Grundfos India secured Hand in Hand India a grant to help 180 households from Vadsar and 450 households from Moti Bhoyan near Grundfos’ factory in Dantali who live below the poverty line, are differently abled or widowed/ less privileged. The households received food kits lasting them a month to avoid venturing outside for food or dry ration kits, as well as face masks and disinfectant soap, thus reducing the risk of catching the virus. 45
