POUL DUE JENSEN FOUNDATION WATER The world needs clean drinking water Turkana: Together with Practical Action, we are helping 72,000 people in pastoralist communities in north west Kenya access drinking water. Photo: Practical Action In the 1980s, Niels Due Jensen initiated the development of a solar-driven groundwater pump. Since solar panels were extremely expensive at the time, there was a need for a super-efficient pump, which could run directly on the energy from solar cells or wind turbines. We are proud of that initiative to this day. Grundfos’ solar programme has since been developed and expanded considerably, and the price of solar panels has also been significantly reduced, making solar energy an economically attractive solution in many parts of the world. The Foundation therefore uses only solar-powered pumps in its water projects. 7
