GRUNDFOS FOUNDATION CITIZENSHIP Equal access to education in Nigeria ACE Radio School is an educational project aimed at providing quality education to children in underserved areas through radio. The project is supported by Grundfos Ghana through a Community Engagement Grant. In 2020, ACE Radio School broadcasted three times a week in nine Northern Nigerian states and seven major communities. Instructional materials used resources from the ACE Charity Learning Resource Centres. The radio episodes were also translated into local languages (Hausa and Fulfude) to effectively engage a wider group of target beneficiaries. The project was partly funded through a Community Engagement Grant. - Already in 2019, we began discuss- ing the significance of radio schools in Northern Nigeria among our team which we believe to be one of the safest and fastest ways to educate children, especially girls, e xplains Kiki James, CEO and Founder, ACE Charity With school resumption in 2021, the ACE Radio School is now focused on providing quality education for out- of-school children, who lack access to formal education systems. - Using practical learning, differen - tiation, repetition, storytelling and rhymes, we were able to give private school education to public school children using private school teachers to deliver each radio episode, says Kiki James Northern Nigerian states like Kano, Ad- amawa, or Borno record high numbers of out-of-school children in the country, and security concerns in Adamawa and Borno have forced parents to keep their children at home. ACE Radio School has been hugely popular, and the collaboration has now been expanded with further funding. Grundfos Ghana will engage in building WASH infrastructure and gen- der-friendly restrooms in ACE Radio School listening centres, and hygiene promotion will also be incorporated to ensure that the attendance remains high, also for girls.
