GRUNDFOS FOUNDATION CITIZENSHIP EUR 20,000 to reach even further The 2021 Grundfos Community Engagement Award went to Grundfos Colombia for their project, ‘Water for Indigenous Wayuu Families in La Guajira, Colombia’. The Award releases a EUR 20,000 grant from the Foundation to the NGO partner, NuevaLife Foundation. In collaboration with NuevaLife Foun- dation, Grundfos Colombia installed solar panels and a submersible water pump and a water distribution system in four indigenous Wayuu communities located in La Guajira, Colombia: Pactalia, Perrohuelia, Piulaka and Antomasomana. - The project directly benefits 84 Wayuu families (437 people) and indirectly approximately 800 addi - tional people in eight neighbouring communities, says Lina Castro, Supply Chain Analyst, Grundfos Colombia Improving life conditions On average, the projects decrease the women and girls’ walks from 3 km to 500m to the nearest water distribution point. In the past, they would cover this distance at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius (or 104 Fahrenheit). In Pactalia, the school canteen now serves better quality meals for all the children in the community and it will improve children's health and nutrition. The project also built awareness on how to care about water and understand how having access to it can bring opportunities to become a sustainable and inclusive community. In Pactalia´s school, Indigenous children teach elders how to make good use of their new water system. We will include hygiene training to help improve children's school attendance and the community's quality of life. Lina Castro, Supply Chain Analyst, Grundfos Colombia 13
