GRUNDFOS FOUNDATION CITIZENSHIP Boosting water communication Improved and effective communication on water is the main objective of the World Water Week Communication Accelerator. The programme attracts journalists and communicators from around the world. Building on the success of the 2021 World Water Week Communication Accelerator, the 2022 programme kicked off with a free online workshop series leading up to World Water Week. Pretty Lal, who works as freelance journalist in Fiji, was one of the participants. - I signed up to the course due to the increasing relevance of water and how it is linked to news, in particular to development themes, discussions, and approaches which are of local, national, regional and international relevance, she says. Participant in 2021 and 2022 closely to the theme of World Water Week: Seeing the unseen. The value of water. Subjects such as groundwater, nature-based solutions, and water pricing were on the agenda, as well as skills-building seminars on science communication and presentation techniques. Pretty Lal found that the new knowledge gained has provided a more solid ground for her work. - I particularly liked the various ap- proaches to water and water-related issues, as well as the networking opportunities given, she says. One of her fellow participants, Namrata Dentan, Associate at 50L Home Coalition at World Business Council for Sustainable Development, wants to stress the importance of the communications skills learnt. - The programme was a major milestone in bringing a versatile and creative approach to rethink the idea of communication, she concludes. Out of 251 registrants, 20 per cent were recurring participants from the 2021 communications workshops. Highlighting communication’s importance The workshop series was followed by panels and a talk show on Centre Stage at World Water Week online and in Stockholm. The sessions focused on the pivotal role of communications for the sector and how to build resilience against misinformation as an integral part of World Water Week. The Foundation will continue funding the programme in 2023-2025. 18
