Grundfos gives a big boost to innovation for solving Bangalore’s biggest water challenge with HelloScience Live Lab Using the SDGs (UN Sustainable Development Goals) as a springboard, Grundfos and Novozymes have created an open innovation platform called HelloScience. The purpose of the HelloScience Lab is to empower local entrepreneurs and partners to solve local problems at scale. On February 27 & 28 startups, academia and business were invited to participate in HelloScience Live Lab to connect to solve Bangalore’s biggest challenge – water! In 10 years, Bangalore, a large city in India with approx. 6.3 million people, is predicted not to have any clean drinking water. This is a big challenge – but we can solve it, if we work together in a joint ecosystem. Solving a challenge like this is huge, but it also offers opportunities for businesses, academia and startups. “Bangalore is a city with a huge startup community heavily focused on IT solutions. With the water challenges so imminent, startups are prone to find solutions that solve concrete water problems leveraging the opportunties of digitalisation”, said Henrik Juul Nielsen, Director of Innovation Management, Grundfos. 14 start-ups were selected out of 57 and presented their solutions to address the city’s water issues at this workshop. The start-ups also got to meet engineers, scientists, and business developers from HelloScience’s partner ecosystem. The experts brought a wealth of experience in working with water challenges around the world and a proven track record of delivering solutions. The start-ups were able to get one-on-one feedback from the experts, participate in Live Lab workshops, got media and press exposure, and the possibility of winning sponsored office working space and incubation.
